Housing Benefit was created by Bluesysue
Hi
Sorry if off topic but I don't know where else to turn.
I get contributions based ESA and in the Support Group, PIP enhanced mobility and standard daily living allowance. Anyone know if I would qualify for housing benefit?
I live in North Devon.
Thank you

Hi Bluesysue
There are no new claims to Housing Benefit apart from pension age claimants and those in special housing such as with support/sheltered.
What is your housing situation ....private rental - social landlord etc ?

We live in a bungalow belonging to the military charity Blind Veterans UK, to whom we pay rent. My husband is the blind veteran and he's just turned 66, so council just stopped housing benefit on the day after his birthday. No forewarning at all.
The council want me to apply for UC, but would I lose ESA and PIP if I did?

Hi Bluesysue
You would lose ESA as soon as you applied for UC but you would keep PIP.
You really need some specialist Benefits advice from an organisation such as Citizens Advice because Councils have been known to wrongly advise Mixed Aged Couples.
There may also be special provisions for blind veterans. If you were able to claim Pension Credit you could still receive Housing Benefit.
Let me know how you get on.

If it's contributions based ESA then it would remain in payment and would be deducted from any UC that is payable.Hi Bluesysue You would lose ESA as soon as you applied for UC but you would keep PIP. Hi Robbie
Just to add you cannot have a couple claim with Contributions Based ESA. But as you say Conts Based ESA carries on after UC Migration and is converted to New Style ESA. David
