Universal credit, amount of evidence needed

I now have a rearranged telephone appointment letter for an assessment for my son, for whom I'm the appointee. However, it asks for any new evidence not previously sent, plus hospital reports, admission letters etc.

The fact is that my son is autistic, actively avoids any consultations he deems to be "useless", based on previous negative experiences, plus has mobility issues which confine him to his room. This has meant that, on the couple of occasion on which we've really struggled to get him to an appointment and it's not helped, he's just become really angry and found that the trip has exacerbated his nerve pain, often for weeks. Mental health appointments are now refused on the basis that the sytem has not helped him at all. What has happened is that he's returned in pain physically and we, as a family , have had to cope with the emotional "fallout" from the experience.

What this means is that we have little recent evidence, which I think also means that his chances of getting UC are very much reduced. Is there anything I can do? I could make a GP appointment to discuss and put them in the picture with a view to them giving more accurate information to the DWP but this fells like a DWP-driven waste of their time.
