UC Migration and jobcentre interview but housebound was created by dazzlelight
Hi I'm in ESA support group and have to migrate over to universal credit by the end of the month. I'm very anxious.
I understand you are required to addend the job centre to prove ID (if not accepted online) and to agree a Claimant Commitment (even if you are in support group and will have no comments). But I am completely housebound due to many health issues and could not get to the jobcentre for an appointment under any circumstances.
My questions are :
1.What do I do if they expect me to attend a jobcentre appointment?
2. How do you accept claimant commitment and have ID check (if they dont accept my online) if not able to attend jobcentre in person due to health issues?
2. How/where/what point of the UC application do I explain I could not attend jobcentre appointment in person due to being housebound and ask for alternative.
3. What alternatives can I expect them to offer?
4. What is the timescale from applying for UC online to them issuing/expecting you to atend a jobcentre appointment, so I know how long I have to sort it out.
I've put off migrating for as long as possible due to the stress of it all but can't put it off any longer.
Thanks for your help

Hi dazzlelight
Have you not thought of using the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service to organise your Managed Migration. The phone number is on page 2 of your Migration letter. Here is the recommendation from our forum member VIA -

Let me know how you get on.

Hi ive tried my local CAB twice over the past two months and they were awful and told me lot of inaccuracies.
Could anyone here answer my questions from knowledge or experience? I'm very worried. Thanks

Hi dazzlelight
As you are in the Support Group your move to UC could be accomplished remotely over the phone and using your UC account. If other issues were to arise then a DWP Visting Officer could attend your home.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dazzel
My son has just gone through this identity bit, he told them he could not attend the job centre do to his disabilities and they sent some one out to verify he was who he said.
A very nice lady check his name on his bank card, an NHS letter and asked his last address so she could check on her own information. She was only here 10 minuet and it wasn't scary at all.
Oh, and she left a letter to say she had verified today for Universal Credit, with the date at the top and her name. So you would have proof. Hope this is helpful JoeB

Hi JoeB
Thanks so much for your sons experience thats helpful to know.
Can you tell me what process did he have to follow to get them to come out? Did they initially tell him to go to jobcentre and there was opportunity to call them to change it? Or Is it the journal thing you put it in? I'm confused with it all.
How long did he have to wait for a visiting officer?
Can I also ask how he accepted his claimant commitment if he couldn't go into jobcentre. Did they let him do it online or over phone too?
Its reassuring to know visiting officer was nice. Thanks dazzle.
