ESA & Housing Benefit letter says got extra 2 weeks payment, will UC pay 3 weeks

Hello,

I am migrated to Universal Credit.

I am surprised I got two letters:
- one from ESA
- the other one from Housing Benefit
Both letters say that my esa and housing benefit have been cancelled on the specific date at which I made my application to UC, But that I get 2 weeks transitional payment for an extra 2 weeks.

I expected to get the equivalent of 5 weeks money in all the benefits combined.

- However as I got 2 weeks of esa and housing benefit does that mean that for the first month I will get 3 weeks worth of esa and housing benefit’s equivalent and the remaining child tax credit equivalent of UC to be 5 weeks worth?
- for the 2nd month of UC onwards will I get 1 month’s (4 weeks) worth of total benefits?

I really appreciate your kind help,
Thank you.

Hi VIA

I cannot predict your Tax Credits as depends on whether you were paid in advance or in arrears.
Your UC is not reduced by receiving the 2 week ESA and Housing Benefit run on.
For the second month you will get a month's worth of UC including transitional protection not 4 weeks.

Thank you David,

My child tax credit payment crossed at the time I applied for managed migration to UC, as a result they overpaid me by accident.

My esa letter and housing benefit letter do say, my esa and HB stopped on the day I migrated to UC, but that in order to help me with the transition they are paying me and extra 2 weeks, to cover 2 weeks after the date I migrated to UC.

Also maybe I got in wrong as there was a lot to take in at the time. but I thought I understood from CAB help to claim a few months ago, that my esa and HB would be paid up to the date of migration.

This is just an update.

Thank you very much.
Best wishes.
