Advice needed for UC migration timing was created by roadrunner
Hi, I received my migration letter last week so I still have plenty of time. Having said that I turn 60 (20th March) and will receive a small occupational pension from a very old job that I must take at 60. A lump sum (paid on 21st March) and a monthly payment roughly 85 pounds a month at the end of each month in arrears. The pension payment at the end of March will be pro rata as it will only be from 20th March i.e not a full month. The lump sum will be a few thousand that will take me to less than 7500 in total across accounts on 21st March. Do I tell DWP whilst still on ESA risking delays then having to do it on uc as well or just do it all at my migration uc claim. If the latter do I wait until end of March or April (when I get a full month and a statement to show). I want to make it easier on myself for the migration without confusing DWP ending in any issues that could be avoided. Any advice pro and con appreceiated. Im in ESA support group.

Hi roadrunner
If you receive any means tested Benefits you are legally obliged to inform the DWP or the Council for Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction of your new pension income as soon as it arrives. I expect you will be better off if you postpone your UC Migration until after the Benefits Uprating in mid April.
Have you thought about using the Citizens Advice Help to Claim service as they have a Transitional Protection calculator. Their phone number is on page 2 of your Migration letter. Here is a recommendation from our Forum member VIA-

Thank you for the reply. If I make a claim before the change of circumstance that will happen on the 21st March, can I report it in the journal on that day and is that the same as telling DWP and it will be job done?

Hi roadrunner
Yes as far as UC is concerned you have satisfied the requirement if you send a Journal message with the change of circumstances. Though I would take a screen shot of it as evidence.

Thanks again. I have been gathering what I needed for the migration form over the past week and decided to do it today. I have hit an issue in the 'Income other than earnings' section at the confirmation stage at the end. I said 'yes' to claiming or receiving the following etc as esa is in the list, but at the confirming stage it is saying I am not receiving 'Income other than earnings despite me saying yes. I went to edit the section and it still had my correct answer of 'yes' but it is not changing. Is this normal because I cannot submit it with this as it is incorrect. In the health section I did say yes to getting esa as a health benefit and that is showing correctly.

Hi roadrunner
I have heard from others of this issue with the summary. So I would just agree with it stating that you are not receiving Income Other Than Earnings after you have reported the ESA. You can always leave a Journal Message regarding what has happened.
Alternatively you can phone the Citizens Advice Help to Claim number which is on page2 of your Migration Notice and ask them if my advice is correct.
Let me know how you get on.
