Changes to PIP was created by Annie
Hi I am 66 years old and receiving PIP higher for everyday activities (maximum points is 3 for washing and bathing) and lower for mobility (10 points, moving around). I am very concerned about the changes announced today in case I lose my payment. Since my award, over 1 year ago, my symptoms have worsened - I have been given a walking stick by physio and also an urgent neurology referral by my GP. Should I inform PIP and ask for a re-assessment? Thanks

Hi Annie
I can't tell you what to do here - this is a personal choice. You know your condition and how much it has deteriorated. If you wish, you can apply for a Change of Circumstances, which will trigger a review. Before you do this, make sure you have consulted the Guide to PIP Claims and Reviews to see where you hope to score the extra points. If you are successful - the new award will be backdated to the date of which you informed them of the change of circumstances.

Thank you. As I'm over 66, I can't get an increase in the payments. I am concerned that my payments will be stopped as my highest score under daily activities is 3. I scored 10 in mobility. I would like to know if it's possible to increase my highest score for daily activities to 4?

Hi Annie
It's nearly always possible for someone to increase their award, but it won't necessarily happen. It all depends on a person's condition, how it impacts them against the PIP criteria and the judgement of the assessor and the decision maker. You say your condition has deteriorated - so have a look at where you scored last time and see if you think that you should score more highly now. Yes, it's possible - I just can't tell you whether you will or not.
