They usually extend it for up to a year, based on your current circumstances, because they haven't yet have time to assess you. You should still receive this f2f appt at some point within the year i would imagine.
Something similar happened to me, I got a years extension, and then within 2 months, I had my assessment, lost my PIP, put in an MR, then a FtT, and was eventually re-awarded it back after 4 months with a backdated payment.
