ESA and UC Migration was created by roadrunner
Hi
From what I understand if you received a P60U every year and your code was ESA500 then you are geting ESA(c) with an ESA(ir) topup. I get a P60U with a code ESA500, showing taxable benefit. I ask because I have my first UC payment statement and the deductions are (1) ESA I was not entitled to and (2) Average of ESA im continuing to claim. Is this correct? and what is (2)? Is it the monthly average of the ESA(c). I assume (2) is the ESA(c) part and (1) is a initial adustment and won't be there next time.
If my savings were to ever go above 16k would I still get the ESA(c) part of the claim and lose the UC topup?
Maybe the same answer but for those still on ESA, and thinking they are on ESA(ir) only but are really on ESA(c) with a ESA(ir) topup like I was, will savings affect thier ESA(c) part? This is interesting because the dwp letter are not clear at all about ESA(ir) being a topup. Only when you get UC you realise you were getting both.
Thank you

Hi roadrunner
I am not familiar with averaging ESA on Managed Migration.
If your savings go above £16000 then you will still receive ESA(C) which is now termed New Style ESA, but your UC would be closed and you would need to pay all your rent yourself ( if renting ).

Today I received by coincidence a letter from DWP telling me my ESA(c) is changing to New Style Contribution-based ESA. They will contact me to book an appointment to accept a 'Claimant Commitment' which the work coach will create. This is needed to be accepted to continue with the new ESA. This can be face to face or by phone. They are telling me that I will need to explain how my illness or disability affects my ability to work at the appointment. I'm in the ESA support group. Is this a makeshift wca that can get me off the support group if I say the 'wrong' things? What are other peoples experience of this process? Thank you

Hi roadrunner
The quality of the DWP communications about the changes to Contributions Based ESA is appalling. The Work Coach doesn't create a Claimant Commitment or discuss your disabilities if you are in the ESA Support Group. The Claimant Commitment is a computer generated " basic " one stating that you will inform the DWP of a change of circumstances.
It has nothing to do with the WCA which is provided by HAAS.

Thanks David.
You are right about DWP communications. I originally was on Incapacity Benefit from my NI contributions I satisfied the rules. Then ESA came along and was put on ESA contribution for 365 days then told I had to claim ESA income related. I did and then always assumed I was totally ESA(IR). At least all letters I received stated that. Then UC comes along and the ESA(C) carries on as the New Style Contribution ESA with just the ESA(IR) topup moved to UC which I now know was the disability premium element of ESA. THe support and std amounts are the ESA(C). By the way the deduction from UC for the ESA(C) is the weekly amount multiplied by 52 then divide by 12 to give you the monthly average which they refer to as Averaging ESA on the statement.
Will any future income affect ESA(C)? I know it affects UC.
I hope this helps people migrating to UC to know there will be two claimant commitments one for UC and another for the New Style Contribution ESA. It can be all rather confusing. Thank you

Hi roadrunner
Thanks for your feedback.
It depends on what your income will be. There are certainly deductions from Contributions Based ESA for personal/occupational pension and some insurance policies.
