£173 better off a month on UC than ESA ? How come ? was created by Benson
So ever since UC came in I have done everything I can not to get it, as I assumed the money I got in the support group of ESA was the max I could get for a single person over 25. So I was annoyed when I got a ESA to UC migration letter, and even got an extension as I just didn't want to change until I had no choice as I was worried maybe my transitional protection may not work, etc. I just never assumed I would get more than I already got.
Today I got my first statement since migrating and the monthly amount shows I will be £173 better off a month. Have I really been holding off getting MORE ? I am sure I checked some calculators a while back that showed I would get less than I was already on hence why I didn't want to change as there was no positives, only the chance of negatives. Or maybe I just heard what others were getting in a similar position.
Is this only higher because I haven't had a payment longer than usual due to waiting for the migration ? Could there be a mistake, or is the standard UC support group higher than the ESA support group ? I just can't believe it as this increase a month is so helpful and as they say, if something looks too good to be true it often is. Presumably now I will get the dreaded brown envelope, something will spoil it.

Hi Benson
I wish I could tell you why you've got more, but I'm afraid I can't. You could always ask in your journal or ring the helpline and ask.

If you are on Facebook there are some groups where you can post screenshot of your statement and they might be able to see what difference is compared to ESA and give idea if it is correct or not.
