Good morning, I'm hoping someone can help with a couple of questions. I'm currently employed for 20 hours a week and on SSP due to long term illnesses. I claim UC as a couple and we don't currently receive a monthly payment from UC as we are slightly over in income. My health is not going to improve and I want to reduce my hours to 12 and claim ESA. I know that any ESA payments are deducted from any UC payments but how does this work if you don't actually receive any money from UC? Thanks for your help.
Unfortunately you cannot get New Style ESA if you are in receipt of SSP. When SSP ceases and you claim it then any payment would be deducted from your UC. You could try using a Benefits calculator to simulate the bigger picture including Council Tax. Entitledto.co.uk is a calculator I have used with good results in the past.
