DLA form help please! was created by Gracie89
Hi,

I'm filling in my sons DLA form, and have some questions please -

Mobility section 49-50 -
Can I put it varies next to these questions instead of ticking yes or no? Because I feel that is the only logical answer and am struggling to say yes because it isnt all of the time and I also cant say no either.
I will be putting detail of examples what happens ect and why on these in extra information.

Care section 54 -
When it says how often need encouragement promoting or assistance to get into bed and to help settle in bed. I'm not sure what to put. As in, do you put one for the first one if you are trying to get them to go to bed and this just goes on and on and you have to tell them several times/help them get ready several times or do you list how many times on average you are telling them over and over? I'm not sure if this just all one long time or is classed as multiple. I'm also finding the average number of times and minutes it takes hard to pinpoint as it vaires a lot, any tips?

For the settling in bed one, this is only how many times they need you before 11pm right? As the rest is classed as night time?

Thanks 🙏🏻

Hi Gracie89

If you don't know whether to tick yes or no, leave them both blank and put your explanation as suggested.

Put multiple times and then put an explanation. Say that although the number may vary, it is always multiple times. When you're trying to guess people invariably under-report - because they want to tell the truth, but they land up making things worse, because assessors always hone in the lowest number you give. You try to give an accurate picture, but have you ever really timed it over numerous occasions? I doubt it. There may be times when it's a few minutes and then actually you may have had nights when you have to offer support on multiple occasions spread over an hour or several hours. You can say that you have never timed it, but you can say there are many times when you have fallen into bed exhausted because of the amount of support you have had to offer - you can talk about the impact on your son if he gets stressed over your prompting - tell them about any disturbed nights and if he's tired or agitated in the morning. Tell them about the worst nights - and if you try and describe a 'better night' be careful of the language you use. The DWP love to misinterpret.

If you are still continuing after 11pm - do say so.
