Transitional Protection for Managed Migration removed after 4 weeks! HELP! was created by LilaKitten
My so-called 'Managed Migration with Transitional Protection' has gone dreadfully wrong.
I was receiving ir-ESA until late April, then was prompted again to migrate. I didn't realise that I was receiving cb-ESA as well as ir-ESA, like many others have discovered.
My UC claim was split into 'New-style ESA' + UC top-up.
After the dust had settled, I realised that I was £44.44 pw short.
I queried this as soon as I could, & received a Journal message saying that they had made a mistake & that I was owed money in arrears for that period of 4-5 weeks. It was still £4 pw short, but at least it was an improvement.
I have plucked up the courage to check my Journal again today, & it says I have got to the end of my Transitional Protection period & my award will be reduced by £80.91 pw!!!
Why?!
I cannot afford to live on this amount. I thought that Managed Migration Transitional Protection was applicable until new UC rates caught up with legacy awards?
My circumstances have NOT changed.
Any advice will be gratefully received. I am in very poor health, & feel abandoned.
My heartfelt thanks for any guidance,
Penny

Hi LilaKitten
Transitional protection payments are not permanent and can decrease or end if your Universal Credit entitlement increases. They will continue until your Universal Credit entitlement is the same or more than your previous benefits, or if there is a significant change of circumstances. Changes that can reduce or end transitional protection include increases in your Universal Credit due to a new child, changes in housing costs, or increases in government benefit rate.
Now, you say that there has not been any change in your circumstances, so you need to ask in your journal for an explanation for the sudden decrease. I'm afraid I can't tell you why yours may have been cut. I know it's tough dealing with this, but the DWP are the only people who can provide you with an answer. As well as writing a note in your journal, you may want to ring the UC helpline 0800 328 5644 and see if you can get an answer from them.
