Abroad on PIP was created by CamiJ
Hello,

My mum went abroad to India with my father. He is a carer for her (of three), she is paranoid schizophrenic and requires daily supervision. She is on PIP. They went for 4 weeks but my dad inflamed a previous sciatica injury and was advised not to travel for 6 weeks (as he would have had to carry all multiple suitcases etc, as my mum cannot (physically weak) and with a 9 hour flight). She also couldn't have travelled alone.

As the initial period was below the reporting threshold we did not inform PIP at the start, but they ended up abroad for 8weeks. We forgot to inform PIP and honestly haven't thought of it since - mostly because my mum ended up missing 5 depot injections and relapsed severely, so we were otherwise preoccupied when they got back! My dad had asked for risperidone tablets for while they were away, before they left, which they weren't given, and she refused injections abroad that my dad tried to organise in India (she was paranoid injections could be something else).

This was 2 years ago. But we are submitting some paperwork for her review which includes her relapse and the cause for it, and now I'm conscious her time away was never reported. Can someone advise what I should do? Can I provide all of the info to PIP upfront or should I wait for them to ask?

Thank you.

Hi CaniJ

When someone reviews your form, they are unlikely to think you didn't report going abroad or being stuck abroad. They will be judging your mother's current health. I would submit any relevant paperwork and then deal with it if you are asked about it at a later date. Occasionally the DWP do come back and ask people about their holidays some time after they took them.
