I'm sorry that you are in this position. Going to the job centre is unlikely to make any difference to the speed in which they sort this out - but that doesn't mean you shouldn't try.
Transitional protection payments are sorted by a different department and lots of people are finding that their payment is added within a couple of weeks.
Many people have had issues with housing benefit and have found themselves going into arrears. That obviously doesn't help you - but unfortunately you are not alone in dealing with this issue.
