Migration and change of address was created by CG31
Hi,
Helping a friend who received letter for managed migration in early June and needs to complete by 5th September. Claiming ESA (in the support group) and housing benefit, and PIP.
He is moving house imminently, he knows he will have to prove his identity and address yet all his current documents and bank statements etc will still be in his old address.
Under his current benefits, he understands that the change of address/circumstances on notifying the Housing benefit office at Lambeth council and DWP will trigger the migration anyway. He's wondering when is the best time to start the UC Migration application & start the clock ticking is it before he moves or after he moves?

Hi CG31
You pose an interesting question, the ideal time to apply is just after your friend has received their ESA.
It's a catch 22 question, if they apply before they move then they will have all their supporting documents for identification, if they wait until they move then apply then they may not have their relevant documents to prove their identity which will then create a delay in their UC going live, either way their HB will stop but they should receive a 2 week run on.

If he notifies the council and DWP about a change of address before starting the managed migration - would this trigger a natural migration instead of the ‘scheduled migration”? He’s concerned that this might cause an issue.

Hi CG31
Yes you are correct, if your friend reported a change of address, and moved to a new local authority then it would trigger a natural migration and they would not be eligible to claim transitional protection.
We would advise your friend to seek specialist advice from their local Welfare Rights Organisation: advicelocal.uk where they can take all their circumstances into consideration when giving them advice.
