I am my son’s Appointee. Doing managed migration ESA to UC. My son had contribution based ESA and ir ESA. I have now been given an appointment on the phone to agree a New Style ESA commitment on 22nd September. I wrote to the case manager in the UC Journal asking if the agent knows I am Appointee for my son and that he is unable to agree any commitments. The case manager is forwarding that to the Job Centre as she doesn't know about NEW STy;e ESA commitments. However, I know from this forum that the DWP should not accept an Appointee agreeing to commitments but how do I tell that to the case manager or the Job Centre ? I don’t see how I can just say something that they ought to know as part of their job.

Hi Anneb

You could send a Journal Message to the recipient The Work Coach but make it for the attention of the Jobcentre Manager and simply say that a DWP member of staff has asked an Appointee to accept a Claimant Commitment and I would like an apology.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi David,

I don't know who sent the message, it was under Appointment and said the appointment is with Kelly. My only contact in the Journal has been in the Payment section who I assumed was a case manager. I have never contacted a Work Coach.

Do you mean that I should use the Work Coach option in the Journal and mark it for the attention of the Job Centre manager? Is there a piece of legislation or rule I can quote to say why neither my son nor me the Appointee can make the claimant commitment ?

Hi Anneb

As long as it reaches a manager then they will realise the mistake. Yes use the Work Coach option in the Journal.
