Attendance Allowance Claim Sucess was created by Salb125
Just wanted to say yet again a really big thank you to the B & W team. I recently help my mum make a claim for attendance allowance. Using your guides and tips from the forum it made the experience far less painful. She has severe osteoarthritis and other health conditions. She didn’t want to claim as she saw it as a part of getting old and having to get on with it. Your guides and helpful hints made it clear to her on how to complete the claim form. Also, she began to see that she should be entitled given the level of care she was needing and getting from myself daily. She was awarded the higher rate and I can’t thank you enough as she can now afford to buy a wheelchair and won’t be housebound anymore. :)

Hi Salb125

Thank you for letting us know, I frequently come across AA claimants who think they are not entitled to claim, don't forget now your mum has been awarded AA she may be eligible to claim pension credit if her weekly income (state pension and any private /occupational pension) is less than £310 a week.

Remember pension credit is a qualifying benefit for winter fuel allowance, free TV licence if aged over 75 and NHS dental charges.

Congratulations on getting your mum AA, you can breathe a sigh of relief, it should take some weight of your mums shoulders.

I will let the back office know as they like a positive story to read.

Gary

Hello,

Congratulations! Just to add to Gary's sound advice, you may be able to claim Carer's Allowance for yourself, too, depending on your own circumstances and how much help you give your mum. Have a look on the gov.uk website for all the information.

Best wishes,

Wendy

Thank you Gary, I will look into her claiming pension credit. Again, something else she believes she shouldn’t claim. I will show her your response and it will give her hopefully more encouragement.
The attendance allowance award is such a relief and huge thank you to you all for the important advice.
Please keep up the great work.
Kind regards, Sally

Hi Salb125

Just a word of warning, if you claim carers allowance then that may stop your mum from getting pension credit as she would then not be eligible to claim the severe disability premium (SDP)

The severe disability premium (SDP) can be awarded in addition to any other premium that may be payable. It is £82.90 a week for each person who qualifies. To qualify:

~ You must receive a ‘qualifying disability benefit’.

~ no one gets a ‘qualifying carer benefit’ for looking after you. These are:
~ Carer’s allowance;
~ carer support payment; or
~ the Universal credit carer amount; and

~ you technically count as living alone
