Credits only New Style ESA - son been awarded but what now?

I'd be really grateful for advice. After applying online for credits only New Style ESA and sending loads of medical evidence with the completed ESA 50 Capability for Work assessment form, my son has been told on the phone that he has been awarded a contribution ESA only until 1.9.2026 and doesn't need to send any sick notes till then.

The advisor from DWP also said that he was awarded this because he's been put in the LCW group. We don't have a letter saying this and she said they don't send one.

I asked her if he's in the LCWRA group - as he's mostly in bed and can't get out - but she was a bit vague on this.

What's my next step? Can I apply for UC for my son if he's not in the LCWRA group but only LCW group - and also I don't have any evidence in a letter that he is even in the LCW group. Or is is just on the DWP system and when he applies for UC, he will automatically be put in the UC limited capability for work and related activity group?

As he works an hour a day when well enough with a little business that we help him with he needs to get a work allowance with UC.

I'm not sure how to proceed and would really appreciate some advice here.

Thanks so much for your help. Can I further ask: what about the 'Related Activity' part of the LCW status? Will he have got that too? Or will this show up in the report you mention (which I will definitely ask for a copy of).

I decided not to become my son's appointee but DWP seem happy for me to deal with his PIP application and talk to me and my husband with my son's verbal permission. Is it the same with UC?
