Problem with pip telephone assessment was created by Whimsylph
Hi. I am looking for advice. I am going through the PIP process, moved over from DLA. My first telephone assessment was cancelled by them and rearranged so i have already waited two weeks extra. I had a phone call today, meant to be the rescheduled assessment but the assessor seemed unaware of the accommodations I needed. I find it very difficult to physically talk for long and had made that clear on the form, supported by medical evidence. I had phoned up twice in advance to check this would be okay and was told the call would be kept short. But today I was told I might have to talk for 90mins. I said I couldn’t do that long and suggested she texted the extra questions or just focused on the key questions in the time we had, but she decided to cancel the appointment and talk to the manager. She was personable but uncertain to what extent my needs could be accommodated. I am feeling very stressed by the whole thing now. Any advice?

Hi Whimsylph
I'm sorry this has happened, but unfortunately, I'm not surprised.
I can't tell you what the result may be. They may come back to you and carry out a shorter assessment or they may come back to you and say they are going to do a paper-based assessment.
Much will depend on whether they believe that you can't take part in a longer assessment. I know you're worried, but there's nothing you can do at this stage - so please try not to worry.
Did they say when they would be in touch? I would phone them next week if you haven't anything by Wednesday.

Thanks Bis. Is it worth making a formal complaint to them at this point about my disability needs not being accommodated in the process - surely, not offering reasonable adjustments for disability during a disability assessment is in breach of the Equality Act. I don’t know if that would be counterproductive now, but I am really annoyed that I made clear how difficult I find talking and took pains to suggest alternatives and they simply ignored it. At present, the assessment has been rescheduled but the administrator had no idea if the manager had made a decision regarding accommodations. Much of my medical evidence, from consultant and others, stated my problems with physically talking.

Hi Whimsylph
It's a hard one to call, personally I would lodge a complaint about how they have ignored your condition and not made any reasonable adjustments, I would also contact your MP and get them involved, some MP's are more pro-active than others.
