Contributions Based ESA and savings was created by Gina1
Forgive me if this is discussed somewhere. I have brain injury, get overwhelmed and confused. Due to brain surgery I cannot work any longer. I was medically retired (with pension) from employer. Each year I get a pay rise. We always report to DWP, and ESA adjusted. it has always been that savings don’t affect ESA. I’m now feeling quite sick that the leaflet included with letter from DWP states max savings 6k. Can someone please help me, thank you so much.

Hi Gina1
There are two types of ESA, Income related and Contribution based. For claimants under state pension age who are in receipt of IR ESA, if they have savings over £6k then they will be affected by tariff income, (for every bundle or part bundle of £250 they will lose £1 pw in tariff income), if the have over £16k they will lose all their means tested benefits.
For claimants in receipt of Contribution based ESA savings are not taken into consideration.

Thank you Gary. I’m sorry my post wasn’t clear, my esa is contribution based. You are all supposed to be mind readers….haha. Really appreciate you taking the time to reply and clarify that savings do not have to be declared. I can stop worrying now. Kind regards
