Query re annual savings letter was created by shwmae
Hi, am on Cont Esa or Ns ESA as it's now called. As I previous qualified for a small amount of top up of IR Esa too ( long time ago)they still send me a letter annually asking about my savings. I haven't had any top up for a good while as savings went up, but still well under 16k. My question is, as they have now ended the IR ESA altogether will they still need to know my savings every year? I am Cont only and won't have any UC. Thank you.

Hi shwmae
If you are only receiving NS ESA then your savings are not taken into account or that of your partner if you have one.

Hi there, sorry I must have confused you, I tend not to explain things well. Even though I am NS ESA only and was Cont ESA only they still asked for my savings amount every year. It was due to previously receiving an IR top up. However when my savings increased that stopped. But I still get a savings request letter annually. When I queried that on here years ago I was told because I previously had a top up they will continue to ask every year in case the amount of my savings fell. My query was as I am still under 16k does the abolition of IR esa mean I will no longer be asked for my savings amount. I know Cont and NS ESA don't take savings into account but they have they still sent letters re savings because I used to get a top-up. I'm hoping those will now cease as I can't qualify for an IR top up if savings fell as it doesn't exist now. (I know I would have to ask for UC top up if savings drop in future.) Hope I explained it better now, sorry about that.

Hi shwmae
You should only be asked for saving amount if you apply for any means tested benefits such as council tax support or Universal Credit.
If your savings go below £16k then you can apply for UC, between £6k and £16k savings you lose £1.00 per week for every bundle or part bundle of £250, so savings of £6,550, you would lose £3.00 pw.
