do I need to reapply for Council Tax Reduction if moving from IR ESA to UC?

under managed migration? I have already had my first UC payment (though it's incorrect, but that's another problem) but the council seems to have stopped my CTR for no reason. Did I have to reapply for it while moving to UC?

Ironically, the council already knew I had moved to UC, since after I completed my UC claim online, the DWP asked me to confirm if the rent is correct, as given from the council.

any thoughts at all? Thanks.

Hi invisible

As you can see from the link to other Forum discussions there is an attempt by some Councils to cash in on the move to UC at the expense of disabled claimants :-

Let me know how you get on.

You need to apply to your Council. Explain you didn’t know you had to. You will get a reduction, but will probably have to pay something. Every council is different.

Hi Angela

Yes every council has a different CTR scheme. Unfortunately some disabled people have found on Migration that they lose all their previous reduction.

thanks Angela and David. I think I am starting to figure it out.....council tax has nothing to do with the DWP, which deals with work and pensions....instead it's something pertaining solely to the council. That's probably why UC asked me to confirm if the rent as stated by the council is correct, but made no mention of CT.

Like a dummy I assumed the council would automatically renew the CT reduction. I'll do what Angela suggested, reapply and explain away my ignorance and lack of understanding.....should have known better, really.

Hi Invisible

You are right about Council Tax administration being not the responsibility of the DWP. But these days Councils have been given access to DWP Benefits information through the shared CIS Searchlight IT system.
Some Councils are processing this information in a way to give Managed Migrated UC claimants less of a discount than previously even though the Benefits money going into the claimant's bank is exactly the same.
