Council tax was created by mags1204
Has anyone else got a huge council tax bill for 26/27? I have had my council tax bill of £750. I was transfered last year from income related esa to UC and new style esa. I used to get 100% discount when on this. But last year had to pay£188 council tax. How on earth do they expect us to find the money as we have no raise until we catch up or 2030. Does anyons know what to do?

Hi mags1204

This issue of Council Tax taking advantage of UC Migration to rake in money from disabled people is currently with the courts though what causes difficulty is that each Council has a slightly different Council Tax Reduction Scheme. Here is the BenefitsandWork story on the issue and if I were you I would find a local Welfare Advice Agency ( maybe Citizens Advice ) who could help until the courts decide.

Hi. Look at your Council website. Each is completely different.

You could also email your Council if you are confused.

I used to get 100% Council Tax reduction. Now the maximum I can get is 75%.

Hi Angela

Yes, unfortunately you may have to research how Council Tax has changed to your detriment as Councils have not publicised the fact that Benefits claimants particularly the disabled are going to be worse off. You get the extra large bill with no explanation and wonder what has happened.
