Letter for further information DLA was created by carole
I have renewal for DLA pending. I received a letter asking me for information regarding hospital admissions. Dates. I put on the form I have had several admissons over the years for mental health. 1976-2002 Only one of these 2002 was whilst in receipt of DLA for two & half weeks. Didnt start to claim DLA until 2001.
Is this because they are checking dates against and how this may effect care compment. Is this a good sign or not.Would be grateful for any thoughts as its such a worry.

It is unclear why the DLA Unit are asking you for details regarding your hospital admissions?

As you have only been in hospital for two and a half weeks from the commencement of your DLA claim, this will not impact upon your entitlement as DLA is only affected when a hospital stay exceeds four weeks.

The only way you are going to get a definitive answer to your question is to either to write or telephone the DLA Unit for an explanation? On the face of it, there would appear to be no reason why you cannot be entitled to a continuous award of DLA?

Thanks for your reply CD. I was following guidelines from this site and put as detail as possible on my renewal form which was sent in around 6 weeks ago and the letter i recieved just asked for the information regarding hospital admission dates, I have replied. I cant face ringing them. As this is all they asked, do you think they were just checking that i wasnt an inpatient whilst in receipt of DLA and is it a goodish sign that they havent asked for anything else and said no to my renewal. Or could they they ask for other info next. Sorry for all the questions but anything to do with benefits now leaves me exteremly anxious

I'm afraid it is impossible to second-guess the DLA Unit's reasons for asking you about hospital admissions, unless they have reason to believe that you may have had further hospital in-patient treatment since since 2002?

On your second question, the DLA Unit will be checking at this stage to ascertain whether you satisfy the basic conditions of entitlement without reference to your current care/mobility needs. If you do satisfy the conditions of entitlement, they may telephone or write to you, your GP and/or consultant, or anybody else involved with your care for further information. On the other hand, they may just make a decision based on the information supplied on the renewal claim form.

I am no expert :silly: and have no idea what the DWP are doing with your case.... but I have seen posted on here in the past people asked this question when an award has been made and they want to know if there any dosh to take off the back claim before they cough up :) there are of course a million other reasons why they are asking for this information but a search of old posts should find the sort of post I am talking about
