It is well worth you doing this and the letter should then be included in your medical records.Could i ask you all out there is it worth updating gp on my long term mental health condition. i have no doctor that knows me well at all and only go if i need to. if i went to see gp would he or she be offended if i took a letter with how i am doing. Also how detailed should the info be, for the sake of needing support letter in the future, cheers.
I would suggest that you keep your letter brief, but not at the expense of your including any and all relevant information.

Yes tell your gp I write once a year and I see him all the time I write all I want him to know and give it a title
"Statement of facts"
Then I list my health problems then descibe how they are causing me problems day to day and give some focus on how my problems tie in with dla and IB
he likes the report as you never have time in 10 mins even to cover what needs to be cover let alone go into details but you need a paper trail for ib and dla

A supportive doctor would not be offended by being updated - they will understand your action.
Best wishes

If the case ever proceeded to an appeal tribunal, they would certainly want to see a copy of any evidence in a letter or otherwise passed to their doctor/consultant by the appellant, and may adjourn the hearing for sight of the evidence before making a decision on the appeal.
