DLA AA Social & Leisure Activites/Direct Funding

Can anyone forward any info regarding acceptable social and leisure activities regarding my current DLA application.

Would attending a photoshop-photography course be acceptable activity?
Could I buy plants and tools for small raised bed in a community garden?
Could I pay for someone to help attend a gym.

I don't think we can advise on specific activities, however it can include the whole range of everyday activities.

I am not clear what you mean by a direct funding grant. If you are talking about Direct Payments for social care, these are paid by your local authority and you will need to contact them directly. You would need to be aware that in many areas, access to this funding is restricted to those with the most need.

I was asking about Direct Payments primarily for someone to attend gym with me.

Those would be from your local Social Services department. There are four categories of need and local authorities are restricting their provision of services so that it is unusual to provide for all categories. I recommend that you visit your local authority's website for more information and ask social services for an assessment of your needs.

There may also be charities or befriending services that could help you. Your local CAB or welfare rights service is likely to have information as to what is available locally.

Unfortunately, I can only point you in the direction of other help on this since it is not one of the benefits that we advise on.

Are there any restriction on what you can use your DLA for. Because I am on IB I was not entitled to support or crisis loan for glasses and a bed ( I sleep on sofa) to help with obstructive sleep apnia which resulted in waking up with panic attack!
