My friend i am a carer for had the atos medlical and is waiting to here what group she will be placed in, she is on IB and has been since 2006, i have been her carer since 2007, but last week i receieved a letter from the JCP to go for a WFI, not ever been asked to do that, is this due to my friend who i care for having her medical, or is this something new they have started. Both worried now as friend thinks they must of failed her, and i am worried as she wont cope alone if they expect me to work. Surely as a carer they cant expect me to, as i say been a carer since 2007 and never called for an interview, any info appreciated.

Hi SC,

I would not jump to conclusions regarding any link between your friend's recent assessment, and the WFI request that you have received.

It could be pure coincidence.

Attendance of WFI's is mandatory, however they can be deferred or even carried out over the phone, or at your home.

Have you contacted them and informed them of your caring commitments, if not it may be worth doing so.

If you put WFI into the search engine at the top of the page, many threads will come up, there is even a thread re this further down the page.

cheers

Hi SC,

Have a look at page 31 of the Understanding Employment and Support Allowance guide that you can access from the link below.

It gives details regarding WFI's.

Hi,

I would do exactly what they suggest, and post the letter by recorded delivery, keeping copy.

Hopefully, that will do the trick, let us know how you get on.
