Please can anybody advise: I have just recieved the forms to transfer from IB to ESA.My problem is, apart from my own ill-health, following the death of my mother, I also live with and care for my 85 year old disabled Father. He requires help with everyday tasks, dressing etc Can I mention this when I fill in the form or will they think that as I am caring then I must be fit enough to work? I am extremely worried about the effect it would have physically and mentally on my Father if he had to be left for any period of time.Apart from his physical disabilities he also suffers from depression and is grieving the loss of my mother
Thank-you for your help
Hi C, and welcome.
I am sorry to hear of your father's problems.
With regards to you filling in your ESA50 Questionnaire, it is your limitations that are assessed in the form.
It is quite possible for one to have limitations that would qualify a claimant for an award of ESA, even though they offer care of some kind or supervision to someone else.
e.g. A claimant could offer care and support to someone else as to their physical needs, but may qualify for ESA on their own limitations caused by mental health problems.
There are many different scenarios with this situation.
I am not aware of a question in the ESA50 that specifically asks whether a claimants cares for someone else.
Therfore just answer the questions honestly, going into as much detail as possible re : your own limitations, as you are the one being assessed.
Start by having a look at all the ESA Guides in the orange MEMBERS ONLY area on the left.
You will find them most helpful in completing your ESA50.
If you then have any specific questions please come back to the forum, and we will do our best to help.
cheers
