Sorry Gordon, not clear on your answer, maybe i did not make myself clear.

if one is getting phi not through their employers policy, but their own policy, does this have a bearing on ESA(CR).??

I would check with your CAB or Welfare Rights, but the Decision Makers guide has the following entry.

Permanent health insurance
44723 Where the claimant
1. receives a payment under a permanent health insurance scheme and
2. had contributed over 50% of the premium then the payment is not deducted from ESA(Cont)
