Renewal of Fit Note
- bro58
If your new "fit note" (MED 3) overlaps the period covered by you present "fit note", you will not lose any days.
bro58
That is a perfect summary of my original reason for posting. Effectively, my first MED3-the current one-overlapped my IB entitlement by 13 days. It was dated 13 days before the last payment of IB was due. So does the first MED3 overlap my IB entitlement, giving me two months from the date of my last IB payment, or do I 'lose' the 13 days where it is signed before IB expiry?
Date of Signing: 13 July.
Date of Last IB Payment: 26 July.
Next MED3 due 13 Sep. or 26 Sep.?
Many thanks.

Your most current MED3 will cover you from the date that is stated on it, for the period also stated on it.
Try not to confuse yourself regarding the date that your IB finished etc.
It is as simple as in my first line above.

Therefore, if your most current MED3 was dated 13th July, for a period of 2 months you would need a new MED3 to cover you for a period from or before the 13th September.

To clarify further, you did not really need a MED 3 to cover you from the date stated on it, 13th July, until 26th July, when your IB ceased, as you were still classed as "unfit for work" for that period.
However, that is not relevant to when your MED 3 needs renewing, that will be 2 months from the date of the MED3, ie, 13th September, (or before, depending when you can obtain one, re : appointment availablity, etc).

I think the original date on the MED3 was an oversight; I think the GP automatically wrote down that day's date, rather than the date when it could have commenced.
No harm done. I am off to book an appt.

Hi YT,
As far as I am aware, G.P.'s cannot (forward date) post date a MED3, for obvious reasons.
Therefore, if he saw you on the 13th July he could not have (forward dated) post dated it as being "signed off" from the 26th July.
However, they can "backdate" them.
