(1)Taxing ESA, and (2)Points

In fact the tax allowance for a single person isn't that great, so with ESA, it only needs a very modest ill-health pension to bring a person into the taxable bracket. I cannot imagine how the HMRC will deal with what could be a sizeable number of people who suddenly become entwined in its system.
Secondly, different answers in parts of the ESA50 award a certain number of points. However, what is the total number of points required from all the questions in the ESA50 to get into the Support Group?
Thanks

Qualification for the Support Group is not points based, it is entirely dependant on meeting the Support Group descriptors

Just to reiterate what MHB has correctly stated with regards to points needed and the ESA descriptors.
You must be awarded at least 15 points cumulitively across all the LCW activities to gain entry to The WRAG. Therefore, it is possible to be awarded well in excess of the minimum 15 points, and still only be in The WRAG. see :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/228/schedule/1/made?view=plain
To gain entry to the SG, you must qualify under at least one of the LCWRA activities. As you may notice some of the SG descriptors also correspond to some of the WRAG descriptors that score the maximum 15 points. See :
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2011/228/schedule/2/made?view=plain

'You must be awarded at least 15 points cumulatively across all the LCW activities to gain entry to The WRAG'.
What is meant by 'cumulatively' ? What are LCW activities? How do these relate to the subjects raised in the ESA50?
'To gain entry to the SG, you must qualify under at least one of the LCWRA activities'.
What is the qualification required to qualify? What are the LCWRA activities - are these the
various activities mentioned in the ES50?

Hi dk,
Sorry, I shouldn't have assumed that you would already knew.
In the first instance, I would strongly recommend that you read our : ESA Claims Guides 3rd and 4th links down.
"'You must be awarded at least 15 points cumulatively across all the LCW activities to gain entry to The WRAG'."
You may be able to gain points across all the Limited Capability for Work, (LCW) activities, as seen in the first link provide on my previous post. To be placed into The Work Related Activity Group of ESA, (the WRAG) you must be awarded at least 15 points which may be obtained across all the LCW descriptors, so you could be awarded 6 in one acitivity, 6 in another, and a further 6 in yet another, this would then give you 18 points cumulitively which would give you LCW and place you into the WRAG.
The Limited Capability for Work Related Activity, (LCWRA) descriptors are on the second link that I posted in my previous post, if you fulfill at least one of these descriptors, then you would be classed as having LCWRA and would be placed into the Support Group of ESA.
These descriptors are tied in with the activity questions in the ESA50.
You should really read all our : ESA Claims Guides which will help to clarify this for you, and you should also review our :
IB, IS, SDA, Migration to ESA FAQ’s and our : ESA FAQ’s
Cheers
