Post office accounts. was created by FunkyDudley
Hi can anyone tell me whether the DWP can make you change or demand i Chang where my benefit is paid into?
I was offered a lot of years ago to get a post office card, which I have but I'm now persistently been hounded to stop using the post office account and give details of a bank/building society account. I was offered this option a longtime ago and I do not want to change. Can they force this? I know there is a 50p charge for post office account and free for bank accounts but I'm not even given the option of paying the 50p (not that I should have to) but I do not want to loose my post office account and do not feel I should have to change.
Any advise please before I send the 4th request form back stating I don't want to change where my benefit is paid into.
Thank you

As you have identified, it costs significantly more to pay benefits into a Post Office account than a normal bank account, so the Government are pushing claimants to change their accounts to save money.

Existing claims, for what are now called legacy benefits such as ESA, JSA and Income Support will not effected, but the intention is that all Universal Credit claims should be paid to a bank account, so you may have to do so in the future.

The Post Office does have bank accounts so it should be an easy change.
