Wheelchair or scooter use. was created by Gareth56
I've read on other forums that when someone who uses a wheelchair or a scooter to attend an atos assessment the assessor has told them to walk to the assessment room rather than use their wheelchair/scooter. Obviously if they cannot walk at all then they can't walk to the room; but if they use it because it's painful for them to walk can they do this or are they just making up rules as they go along?

They can ask but they cannot order the claimant to walk. If you can only use a wheelchair or scooter then explain this to the assessor.

Fair enough if you can only use a wheelchair because you are paraplegic; however if you are able to walk but walking causes you pain, discomfort or breathlessness hence you use a wheelchair or scooter can the assessor insist you walk to the room?

As I said, the assessor can order (or insist) that the claimant does any specific activity. If you can't walk then explain why.
