PIP Query was created by Davey
Hi Guys,

I've got a few queries I hope you can help with.

I am not very good at talking about my illnesses and I suffer depression and fatigue linked to my MS. So found it very difficult to motivate myself to complete my paper forms. I can't even remember what I sent on them unfortunately as it was ages ago. I have been in hospital since I initially sent them in for awhile, totally unrelated to MS.

When I recently had a meeting with my MS specialist nurse she couldn't believe that I hadn't put down so many relevant points. I don't think I took a lot of the questions in properly. My health condition has also changed drastically since I applied as I now have further injuries.

I have called PIP and informed them and have some papers to show the assessor. Will they challenge this and say on my form I never mentioned certain things linking to my original condition of MS? For example I didn't speak much about my need for toilet and urgency etc as its embarrassing and I didn't think it was relevant

I am diagnosed with MS which is progressive. I am affected in many ways. Two of the ways I am affected is walking and my grip. My. Ms is worsened as I tire.

Sometimes in the morning I am able to walk with a crutch for maybe up to 100m however once I tire I then couldn't walk at all.

Generally my first hour awake I am terrible then my body wakes and I am at my best for 3 hours then my body tires and I would then be in a wheelchair.

I didn't see anything ref 50% of the time ref mobility? What sort of points do you think this would score me in assessment?

It's the same with my grip for example at one meal a day I could probably use normal cutlery and for my 3 hours of being well I could use a normal cup however all other times I'd use adapted cups and cutlery.. 3 hours is generous for the amount of time before my ms symptoms render me totally useless.

Hope this all makes sense and thank you

There should not be a problem with you introducing new information at the assessment hut I would also send a copy directly to the DWP office dealing with your claim.

The 50% rule applies to Mobility as well as the other PIP activities, but be aware that it is the majority of days, not the time, so you need to look at how you are effected during the day, as a poor example; if you could not wash and/or dress after getting up then you should be considered as being unable to do this for the day, but if you cannot prepare a meal first thing but could later then you probably would not meet the requirement. You need to think about how this translates into your walking ability.
