ESA form filling questions was created by leesylou80
Hi,
I have been sent the dreaded ESA50 form to see how my condition has vhanged since my last review. I have a whole host of stuff going on and have been in the support group and things are worse than before! I have a few questions that I'm struggling with so maybe someone could please help me?
1 - I find writing hard and it causes a lot of pain. (This is done by using the speech to text facility on my phone) if I were to use the online ESA form and either type it or fill it in electronically, will this actually count against me because it shows that I can use technology?!
2 - is it better to send a lot of documentary evidence or should I limit what I send? I have letters from hospitals and consultants, test and scan results, supporting statements from my friends and family and also diary entries that I have made over the years as my condition changes a lot. I feel that all of the evidence is relevant and in my opinion it would be helpful for them to read it all and understand but I don't want to be dismissed straight away or put on having a medical test just because I've sent in too much information and they can't be bothered to read it!
3 - I have to send it back by 26th September and I'm planning on sending it on 22nd or 24th by special delivery. (I was away when then form came so I have had less time to fill it in!) It will then get there on 25th and I will have evidence that I sent it before the date AND it was signed for. Is this enough? Or do they mean that I should send it sooner as it can be entered into their system by the 26th?
4 - what will happen to my payments whilst they are looking at my claim? Is there any reason they would stop them? And if they do stop my ESA, will my housing benefit also stop?
I'n Sorry for all the questions. I've tried to get answers from disability coalitions, CAB and a few other places but has no luck. I'm hoping that someone can help me here.
Thank you! X

1. Or you can attach pages to the ESA50. Typing your answers should not be an issue, just explain why you are doing so.
2. I can't say what you should or should not include with the form, one thing you can do is provide an index to the evidence that you are attaching so it is easier for those reading it to understand what is attached.
3. The requirement is that the DWP or rather Maximus, receive the form by the required date, as long as you can show that this has happened then you don;t need to post earlier.
4. Your current ESA award remains in payment until a new Decision is made on your claim.
