Income support with Carers Allowance was created by mikmeg
Hi,
Just want to know how difficult the Income Support people are now, as my wife is about to go for her Care allowance to care for me ( DLA HRC & HRM for now??)we have been putting it off for a long while, and that will take a large chunk from my Incapacity Ben. and she has been advised to make the shortfall with Income support.
We moved from the I.S. some 9 years ago when they put us on to child tax credit, and it was a massive drop at the time and so on, but the lack of misery that Income support people caused was a blessing.
I have memory of them arriving at my door unannounced on more that 10 occassions demanding paperwork etc and it really did feel like the Nazi SS. I have too many bad recollections of their brutal tactics I am really disturbed that we would be at their beck and call again, even though we need the shortfall. Has anyone got good a word for the I.S. branch of the DWP and are they much improved or more of the same with the new Gov changes.
Needs must, but I am sorely tempted just to make do with nothing and forget the shortfall with income support.
Any reliable advice will be happily taken.

thanks

You need to get face to face advice from an experienced advisor who can properly look at your situation and in particular the effect the your wife claiming Carers Allowance will have.

There are several discrepancies in your post from my understanding of the effect that CA will have, which makes me believe you need extra advice.

My experience of Income Support is that they have been helpful, friendly and knowledgable, completely different from the equivalent for ESA.

I think you need to seek advice and check things out ...I thought that you could have both IB and partner claim carers allowance then if with premiums if allowed more its made up with IS

Also if IS is paid for ill health dont you still get called for meetings and medicals.... and last of all :) what about the BIG changes coming up the new "credit" payment

My Wife has went to several welfare people in recent weeks and was given similar but not exact amounts.
The amount shown would remove amounts from my Incap. ben.The shortfall is around £20 in all, but that was the point at which we claim Income support. My real point was that relating back to when we were removed from IS some years ago,it was a relief, but only due to the attitude we found from the IS people. What I am hoping is that they are not still as aggressive as I always found them to be .
The actual CA is fine as I believe it helps my Wife in pension? I still have a few things to read on it yet, but the Care allowance group locally have spelled out to her that we should not be worse off as the difference is made up by IS.
As to new changes overall and the move I will be making when I get a medical in IB and my DLA , that is still to be faced, and so far I have not had the letter ,but will meet that soon enough.
But you reckon Gordon that IS are better to deal with than ESA? I may find out soon on that one, but I am still unconvinced with facing IS and what that throws up in future.

My concern is your expectation that your IB will be reduced. The IB is paid to you and would not be affected by any income that your wife brings into the household, including any payments for CA.
