what do people do about medical evidence who have suffered long term illnesses but are no longer under consultants but left in the hands of their GPS to manage their conditions.I have consultants letters dating from 1990 up to 2007 but i take it these will all be clased as out of date.I know what my conditions are as does my GP but do i have to start the process off again and request new consultant appointments, new MR scans (had 16 already) new physio, new pain clinic, etc etc.Just seems a total waste of money even if my gp agrees to it.

I think the first thing to do is to discuss your situation with your GP and see what they think. It may be that a further round of tests and reports is appropriate for your condition anyway, conversely it might not be a realistic option.

Just because you current reports are old does not mean that they cannot be used. You condition may be one where there is no liklihood of improvement in which case all you would need to show is that there has been no change.

Have you visited your GP regularly over the intervening years? If you have then these "updates" should be recorded in your medical records which could therefore be included as evidence.

Hope this helps

the letters from consultants to gps that are sent after you went to hospital will have something along the lines

"we are now handing care back over to you, please do refer this person back to us in future if you think we can add something more to his care" it will also list any drugs they want your dr to give you in future

physio pain & clinics they all do the same type of letter in the last 10 years i think I have been copied in so any letter sent to my gp is sent to me too
