I receive both PIP and support group ESA

I have heard that sometimes at reassessment you can be asked to provide bank statements. Are there any restrictions on what you can spend this money on. The obvious things like food, bills clothes and after that?

I pay my daughter for petrol and helping me are things like this ok, how much do they take into account what you do with this money,l
Thank you

Whilst the DWP can ask to see your financial information at any time, they will not do so as part of a re-assessment.

You are entitled to spend your money as you wish, issues will only occur if you are receiving Income Related ESA in part or in whole and your savings exceed £6,000.

I’ve picked this up as I’m currently on income related ESA and will have in the next few weeks savings over 6,000 but under 16,000 due to two small occ pensions being paid the money will be a lump sum as part of the pension payout. My concerns are around spending the lump sum, and any stipulations. I’m on PIP which I understand won’t affect or be affected, as it’s not means tested. Next May I will have government pension so realise things will change again

Hi Unique1

Any pension that you receive from your occupation will affect any means tested benefit. As you rightly point out if you have savings over £6k and under £16k then for every £250 bundle over £6K you will be hit with £1.00 tariff income.

Pensions are not affected, Pension Credit is as well as housing benefit and Council Tax Reduction scheme.

You can spend your money on what you want, any large items I would advise you to keep a receipt.
