DLA to PIP. Does Council know before me?

Hi. I am still waiting for the PIP award letter to come through, but I had a letter from our Council Housing a couple of days ago, saying that the DWP had notified them of a change to my benefits.

It isn't easy to understand, but it looks like I will be getting Standard Care and Enhanced Mobility.

Is it normal for councils to be told my award before me?

Also there appears to be something called "Severe Disabled Premium". Is this something new with PIP?
Thanks
James

Your Local Authority is notified electronically of the Decision and they usually write to the claimant the next day, the DWP system takes three or four days just to print the letter and it is then sent 2nd class from Belfast, so it is not unusual for a claimant to receive notice from their LA first.

The SD Premium is "paid" to claimants who are awarded PIP Daily Living and live alone, there are other criteria, for HB it increases the allowance used to calculate your HB so you won't actually receive more.

I wonder why we cant have a reply electronically? I am sure it would cost less money!

The law requires all Decision to be notified to the claimant in writing, systems such as email are not considered to be secure enough to replace a letter.
