I live with my mother who cares for me. I am in the ESA Support Group IR and also PIP standard award for both daily living and mobility components. I do not claim housing benefit or community tax reduction.
We are in the process of moving as I cannot manage the stairs. My mother, who is very elderly and has her own health problems, wants the new property in my name only (we currently own 50:50). No funds will go into my bank account as it transferred straight onto the new property. At present we spilt the bills, insurances, shopping etc 50:50 and this will not change when we move. Would this affect my ESA claim in any way. Do I need to notify the DWP of this change?
Thanks for any advice given. Much appreciated.

Hi pbuk
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work .
As you are in receipt of IR ESA which is means tested then you need to seek help from your local welfare rights organisation: You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk
One way around the issue is for your mother to make a Will and leave the property or her half of the property to you and vice versa. Your mother could contact Age uk/Age concern for guidance about Wills.
Anyone who has a property should have a Will as it does save from having problems to sort out at a later date including probate.

Thank you for the response. We both have wills. I used your link to find the local CAB which is only taking questions by phone or email currently. I will cut and paste this into an email.

Just an update. I contacted my local CAB via email and a very kind gentleman rang me the next day. I gave him all the information and he said he would go an investigate. He rang me the next day to inform me there was no problem with me being the sole owner of the property with regard to IB ESA. Thank you Gary for pointing me in the right direction.
