Didn't put enough info in PIP Form was created by Angie
Hi
I am helping someone with a MR for PIP. They haven't filled the form in very well. I work with Autistic and otherwise Neurodivergent people and this is a common issue, usually they do not understand enough about how being Autistic/ADHD/Dyslexic/Dyspraxic effects them within the context of completeing the form and it is often very difficult to get evidence because it is a lifelong neurodevelopmental condition, you are only usually assessed once. The report you get from an assessment if diagnosed in adulthood idoes not help you to understand what makes you autistic etc... I know all this because I am autsitic and ADHD myself and fell foul of the same problem when I initally applied for PIP in 2016.
They need to put in a MR but I need to basically go through the form properly with them to get the right information. The MR needs to be with DWP by 23 October, I can't do the form with them before then is it ok if they send this letter
I consider that I am entitled to PIP at the rate of enhanced for daily living and mobility. I do not consider that the decision maker took full account of the severity of my condition or of the way that it affects my everyday activities. I need help understanding this next process so I do not have any further evidence to add at this stage. I will, however, send in further evidence of my disabilities and how they affect me as soon as I can.
I disagree with this decision for the following reasons:
• I believe that you have underestimated the degree of my disability and consequently underestimated the extent of the difficulties I have in carrying out daily living activities. A diagnosis of an Autism Spectrum Condition is not forthcoming unless one can demonstrate that “symptoms limit and impair everyday functioning”. Whilst, in an assessment they may be difficult to witness it does not mean they do not exist. I have genuine difficulties looking after myself.
• I struggle to communicate effectively as demonstrated by the fact that I have been unable to convey to you the level of my difficulties in the form and in my assessment for daily living and mobility.
• My mental health issues have not been fully considered.
Please provide me with copies of all the documents used to make a decision in relation to my claim for PIP dated
This should include all medical and other evidence you hold and a copy of my PIP2 ‘How your disability affects you’ claim form.
Important note: Should I wish to withdraw this request I will only do so in writing. Under no circumstances will I withdraw this request verbally. If you speak to me on the telephone about this matter, nothing I say should be construed as a withdrawal unless and until it is confirmed in writing
Thanks
Angie

Hi Angie,
This is a difficult situation. PIP forms aren't easy to fill at the best of times; they do seem to be more geared towards those with physical difficulties. PIP for people with autism is perhaps more tricky to achieve, especially do if the claimant agrees with everything the assessor says, even if it is fundamentally not at all correct.
What I suggest is to swap the paragraphs in your proposed letter around a bit. Cut the first paragraph and start with the second paragraph, up to the end of the bullet points.
Then, include a sentence or two about the reasons why each descriptor applies, namely why the activity can't be done, or why it can't be done safely, to an acceptable standard, in a reasonable time or repeatedly. Try and work out the correct points level for each activity.
If you are sure that the points tally 12 or over on each section, then conclude with the original opening paragraph, and the remaining paragraphs. (You may need to edit slightly to make more sense.)
If you just say I shoukd get enhanced rate without alluding to any points valued I suspect your letter will be ignored! Also make it clear that the letter was written by yourself on behalf of your friend, otherwise you will fall into a big PIP trap.
Aha! says DWP you can't communicate but yet write a very eloquent letter!
I hope this helps.

Hi, as mentioned above, you need to refer specifically to the descriptors because at the moment, the letter isn't referring to anything which they are looking for. I also would not say please give a copy of the evidence you have because you won't get another chance to respond to the MR. You get one chance only and this should be asked beforehand. Is it possible for either a professional (such as GP) or even yourself to provide some additional evidence which relate specifically to the descriptors?
P.S I have a range of neurodiversity conditions and totally get what you mean by that it is not obvious how they affect you (specifically, how to put it into words). I had to Google the 'science' behind each of the conditions so that I could figure out the best way to describe the impact of these issues.

Hi Angie
You have probably put in the letter now, but if you haven't I would ring and say that you will be putting in a late MR. The reasons are a very good in that your friend needs support and you can't do it in the deadline. Late submissions are allowed if there is a good reason and I think you have an excellent reason. I think it may be worth trying.
