Giving up my Motability car? was created by Silveredanjel
Dear Forum members,
I would appreciate your advice.
Because I am still on DLA I am wary of doing anything that will prompt a DWP review.
Due to a recent car crash and increasing fibro fog I am considering giving back my Motability car.
My question: if I do this will it lead to my file being reviewed and then passed to PIP?
I do not feel capable of dealing with that just now.
Many thanks for reading and responding, if you are able to.

Hello Silveredanjel,
I am hoping that our members can give you advice from personal experience.
If you decide not to keep a mobility car then DWP will be informed as they will then start paying you the Mobility part of your DLA award. I can see no reason why this should trigger a review, and the DWP seems to be so overwhelmed with work at the moment I would be surprised if they are looking for more.
But I can understand your concerns and I am not able to give you any absolute reasurrance. I think everyone dreads a PIP application or review, and I don't think anyone feels ready to face it. But having said that, ironically, you are more likely to have a successful outcome when you health is in bad period than when it is in a good one.

Hi Silveredanjeli , if your 3 year lease with motability is coming to an end I don't think DWP will bat an eyelid if you decide not to take on another lease. I am not sure where you stand if you want to give up the car part way through a lease. I hope that helps a little.
All good wishes

Thank you Ex Nurse. I am half way through my contract which is why I'm asking the question! So far I have not made a decision.

Thank you so much Catherine. It is good to hear a broader view, one gets so caught up in one own's quagmire!

hi Silveredanjel,
If it does lead to being assessed, having to give up your car should be additional evidence of your difficulties. The DWP seem to equate being able to drive with being able to complete many of the pip activities. Whatever you decide I send you all good wishes for the outcome.
