Telephone assessment was created by Lisa
We have just completed a telephone assessment, at 8am, this morning for my my son who is autistic/ADHD. The appointment was a day before his re-application 'how is disability affects you' form was due in. We posted yesterday so it should be with them for the deadline. The assessor was questioning him about school when, at age 21, is a post grad student. When we queried that we thought she was working from the old application she said she had to. I queried why they did not wait for the new application to come before arranging the assessment. Also we wanted to record but she said we couldn't do it without prior warning. Was given the option to re-book but my son wanted to get the assessment out the way.
Is it normal to book assessments before the application is due? Was it right for her to say that we need to make prior arrangements before recording the assessment interview?

Hi Lisa

This is most strange and no it is not normal for them to arrange an appointment before the form would have arrived. I think it puts your son at a distinct disadvantage. Forty-Eight hours after an assessment you can ring for a copy of the report. This is a PA4. In the circumstances, I think you would be wise to do this, so you can see what is written and if there are any issues flag up what happened before the decision is made.

Yes, you do have to give a prior warning of wanting the assessment to be recorded, because some assessors do not like to be recorded and that would give them time to find another one. Some members do make covert recordings of the phone calls for their own use.
