PIP Form Query was created by Whistler_Lightspeed
Hi,

On the PIP form under point no.3 “Managing Treatments or Monitoring your health condition” - Would my wife put Autism, Audio Processing Disorder, Spatial Auditory Processing Disorder, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Inattentive ADHD/ processing disabilities under this? Or because they are disabilities and not a ‘medical condition’ do they not go in here and just go in the other areas where her disabilities mean she struggles with some things like social interaction?

Thanks,

Whistler

Hi Whistler,
Monitoring a health condition means physically checking things, on advice from your GP or nurse. An obvious example would be to check blood pressure via a monitor or to check peak flow for an asthmatic. The monitoring will check if your health is ok, and whether some action is required.
Whilst I appreciate that your wife may need to supervise you whilst eg you are walking, dressing or preparing food to ensure you are safe or perhaps to assist you complete the activity, unless there is some specific medical check that she has to do then unfortunately you will not be able to score for monitoring a health condition. If you need help to take medicine, then you may be able score under 3b i or ii instead of iii?
I hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply.

I am afraid it hasn't answered my question. Because of possible confusion to maybe what it is I am asking.

I am not sure how to re-word it so as to maybe give better context to my query, but I will try.

For example - my wife still needs to 'manage her condition' regarding her disabilities - this may be via needing a routine, reducing noise or light due to sensory issues, needing communication aids/reasonable adjustments for processing difficulties. So because this is part of her 'managing' her 'condition' - I wasn't sure if then I was to expected to put about 'managing her disabilities' under this heading also as well as any 'medical symptoms' that also is managing.

Hi Whistler_Lightspeed

Managing medication means the ability to take prescribed medication in the correct way and at the right time.

Monitoring a health condition or recognising significant changes means the ability to detect changes in the condition and take corrective action, as advised by a healthcare professional.

Note that ‘keeping an eye’ on how a person is doing does not count as monitoring, unless the person is monitoring a specific parameter under medical advice and is implementing treatment modifications to prevent deterioration.
