Good afternoon

I am a carer for mum , I’ve been sick for the past one year now , I’ve got severe anxiety and depression and also muscle pain that’s been looked after in hospitals . Is it worth applying for PIP since I am a carer .

Also I have just found out that I am
3 weeks pregnant.

Please advise me what to do

Thank you

Hi Wissal

Many congratulations on your pregnancy.

There are claimants who receive PIP and also get carers allowance. Be warned, however, that if you claim PIP and it is awarded your carers allowance could be at risk if the DWP think that because of your own medical difficulties you are no longer able to fulfil your carers duties under the terms of the carers allowance eg you must give support for 35 hours a week.

Hi Wissal and my congratulations too. Another very little known benefit for carers is Carer's Credit. If you are not working or getting any benefit that provides National Insurance credits, but you do 20 hours a week minimum caring, you could be eligible for this. It's not means tested and will protect your eventual State Pension.
All the info is on the .gov website. The only proof required is a health professional signing a form you can print off or have sent. I just thought it worth a mention as it is a lower minimum. Also other readers may not know about it, and be in the same situation as me, had a legacy so do not qualify for means tested benefits.
About your own health, did the hospital test you for magnesium deficiency? It's surprisingly common and can cause a lot of muscle pain/cramp/weakness. But many doctors seem unaware and do not check. [Avoid any supplements containing magnesium oxide as it is not very effective, any other kind is better.]
Any further questions, everyone here will try to support you.
Best wishes,
Denby
