PENSION AGE CHANGES? was created by ELE1
Hi, Hope you can help. I will soon be collecting my pension. At the moment I receive ESA and SDP and PIP with Housing benefit. I am confused about what will change. Will I still get these benefits or will everything have to change. My medical history has not changed. TIA

Hi ELE1
It will depend on your circumstances, from the information you have sent, I have assumed you are single, living alone and no one claims CA for looking after you and you are in receipt of the daily living component of PIP, if this is correct then the only thing that will change is that your ESA along with SDP will stop when you reach State Pension age.
What you need to do before you reach state pension age is apply for Pension Credit, providing you don't receive any occupational or private pension when you reach state pension that puts you over the applicable amount. www.gov.uk/pension-credit/how-to-claim.
The basic Pension Credit is £177.60 pw as you receive daily living component of PIP live alone and no one claims CA then you would be eligible to SDP, same as for ESA £67.30 pw, therefore your pension credit entitlement would be £244.90pw minus your State Pension + any other pension you may have. What ever balance is left over, that is your Pension Credit entitlement. If there is no surplus balance then you are not entitled to any Pension Credit.
As PC is a qualifying benefit, you would be entitled to full HB, CTRS and Warm Home Discount from your electricity provider, providing they operate that scheme. You may be too late this year if you have not already applied as once the pot of money has gone you have to wait until next year and then apply usually July/August time.
