Tragic PIP phone assessment

Tragic PIP phone assessment was created by Bron
Hi, I just had my PIP phone assessment which I’ve been dreading. My anxiety was through the roof. I have read all your guides which I used for filling in the original form which were extremely helpful. I did all my prep work ready. Had all my forms to hand and wrote notes. Then when I answered the call it all went downhill.

I couldn’t understand the assessor very well and he didn’t even say what health sector he was in.

First questions did I drive and was it a manual... Have you got pets.. Where are the bedrooms in my house etc. He never let me talsk about my pain etc.

He never asked me what difficulties I have I had to keep butting in and he told me to answer the questions only and speak when asked.

He even skipped a few questions like meeting people, planning a journey etc. But he was very interested in medication and dosage which would have been in front of him anyway.

The mobility question also threw me as I was asked how long it would take me to walk around a football pitch sizes room which was warm and had a wooden floor. By this time my brain had exploded and I just said I have no idea but I have to stop and rest every minute or so.

I had taken so long to prepare for this but now all I feel is despair. I have suffered with RA and OA for nearly 30 years. I am in the ESA SG which I have been in for 10 years but I suppose that’ll have nothing to do with the result.

I’m not sure if I can face the fight I will now have to go through.

I would phone the helpline number (or if anyone else can offer a number) and complain! Keep repeating that the assessor was extremely hard to understand, didnt give to appropriate time to answer questions and was rude to you by demanding you only speak when asked. Also formally request a copy of the phone assessment, if they say they dont have one/a copy of it, request a new assessment.

Hi Bron,

I'm really sorry you had such a bad experience with your phone assessment.

I understand your fears about the outcome from this and any battle you may face should the outcome be unsatisfactory.

Perhaps your best approach here would be to hope for a good outcome but to start collecting together the paperwork and other evidence in case you need to request a mandatory review.

Please come back to the forum should you need help with this.

It is worth saying that others on the forum have gone through a similar experience to yours but, after mandatory review have received a good outcome.

Wishing you all the best.
Pete

Dear Bron, so sorry they have treated you like this, they would not like it done to one of their loved ones. Please try to regather yourself for 48 hours, then phone for the PA4 assessment report. When you have it, mods and fellow sufferers here will help you deal with it.
One day at a time and a nice cup of tea or whatever you prefer to calm down.
His approach was utterly unprofessional and unacceptable. He's the one in the wrong.
Kind regards,
Denby
