Upgrading PIP award was created by 1048claire
My son, who suffers from really bad anxiety and depression (plus a debilitating spinal condition) is receiving the standard rate PIP for both the care and mobility elements of PIP. I have read that the DWP are reviewing cases of the mobility element for people who need assistance in going out and meeting and conversing with people. My son suffers with this problem and I have to be with him when he has to meet people, otherwise he would suffer a panic attack. Would he qualify to receive the higher rate of the motability element of PIP, or is it only for those who have to have 'specialist' help when they go out?

Hi 1048claire

Your question is one that we can't give a definitive answer to because we're not assessors and we don't know your son's case. I can say that a claimant does not necessarily have to have specialist help to qualify for an improved award.
