Will I end up homeless if I get a job?

I receive old-style ESA (Support Group) and PIP (Higher daily living). Please provide your opinion regarding whether I would be an idiot to get a part time job (18 hours a week) which pays a salary of £14,000 per annum. There is a shower at the place of work to deal with incontinence problems and I presume I could do half of the work at home. I am not a wealthy person and I am supporting someone else too, so I don’t want to get this job if it means that I will be much worse off and end up not affording my rent, the job is only temporary. Would it definitely trigger a PIP review? Would I be a lot worse off when the job ends? Very worried and confused about it all, but want to be a useful member of society.

Hi Plinth

I'm sorry, but your question is outside the scope of this forum and you would need to speak to a specialist benefits advisor.

They will be able to tell you what the impact would be on your benefits. For instance, claimants who work can continue to receive PIP, but they would need to show that the issues for which they received the award had not changed. A specialist advisor could help you with this and talk over the risks of the employment only being temporary and what would happen when it came to an end. You can try and find someone in your area from the link below.

Thank you so much. I will make an appointment at Citzens’ Advice to discuss the disadvantages and possible poverty and homelessness that may or may not ensue if I get a job.

Are you able to advise on Permitted Work? If I got some Permitted Work, would that worked forcibly stop if I was forced to be migrated onto Universal Credit? What or who qualifies as a “ Supervisor” for those engaged in Permitted Work? I will fully understand if these questions fall out of the scope of this forum and you are therefore not able to answer them.

Hi plinth

Your question is outside the scope of the forum.

If you do 18 hrs a week then your ESA claim will stop and you will not be eligible to claim permitted work.

If you claim UC then you cannot claim permitted work: www.gov.uk/government/publications/emplo...itted-work-factsheet

Follow BIS's advice below, if you are on low income then you may be able to claim HB/UC depending on your circumstances.
