What can a DWP work coach do? was created by trip77
I had an appointment last Wednesday with my work coach as I have been deemed fit for work by the WCA assessment people, I have appealed and its going to tribunal, I have been off from work for the past 3 years with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis in my hips spine and feet and also suffer from contact dermatitis, plantar fasciitis, asthma and carpal tunnel. I am on standard daily care allowance for PIP and for the last 2 years I have been contacting my employer to try and sort things out so that I can either go bak to work in another position/part time or be re-trained to do something else. Covid got in the way for the last 2 years and with all the furlough etc etc, my Employer has only now decided to look into this for me.

Anyway, I saw the work coach and explained my situation to which he was very offhand about as he kept saying that how could I have so much wrong with me as I am younger than him and should be able to work. He also kept commenting that I wouldn't be able to stay on benefits for that long and that I WILL have to find work one way or another. He also said that if I didn't get things sorted with my wmployer that he would write me up in a Report and have my benefit stopped as I am clearly fit for work as he saw it and also that if I didn't sort it out with my employer, he would side step them and find me another job himself. Can a work coach act or behave like this?
It's almost as if he had a complete disregard for any of my illnesses or problems and forcing me to find work as he said my employer was dragging their feet and according to their phone assessment I am capable.
Anyone's thoughts on this would be appreciated. I have shortened this down as there was more things he had said and commented to me that were very demeaning and disrespectful.

Hi trip77

I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation: You can find your local Welfare Rights Organisation to help you with advice by clicking on the link below and putting in your post code, it will then come up with a MAP with a list of agencies. advicelocal.uk .

One of the questions I would ask is, are you under any specialist consultant? Have you asked DWP for a copy of the assessors report UC85, Have you applied for a MR?

You could lodge a formal complaint against your workcoach, especially if you are seeing specialists. You may want to involve your local MP for help. it sounds as if your workcoach is being judgemental. Many conditions are hidden from the real world, especially mental health and conditions you cannot see such as, MS, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis etc etc.

I cannot see how age has anything to do with a condition such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, osteoarthritis etc etc, I have know many young claimants with MS.
